Almost nobody does this properly. You check a competitor's pricing page the week you launch, then never again, and you find out they halved their price when a customer tells you. It's a perfect bot job: open five pages on a schedule, diff them against last week, report only what changed. No API, no integration, no permission needed · just a browser looking at public pages, which is exactly what a bot with its own computer is for. The one thing to get right is signal: a diff that fires on every marketing tweak gets muted within a fortnight.

The prompt

Written for a bot that already has a browser, a terminal and your logins · paste it in whole.

Watch my competitors' public pages and tell me when something real changes. Ask me for the list of companies first.

For each one, watch:
- The pricing page, the changelog or blog, and the homepage headline.
- Once a week, Monday morning. This is not a live feed.

What to report:
- Price changes, new or removed plans, changes to free tier limits. Always.
- New product launches or a changed positioning line on the homepage.
- Take a screenshot of anything that changed, and show me the before and the after.

What NOT to report, because this is how the whole thing gets ignored:
- Copy tweaks, new testimonials, blog posts about company culture, a swapped stock photo.
- If a week has nothing real in it, send nothing at all. Silence is a valid report.

Keep a running log I can read, one line per change with the date, so I can see the shape of what they've been doing over six months.

Only public pages. Never sign up for their product, never create an account, never use anyone's login.

What you lose

  • the judgement to know which change actually matters
  • nothing you were reliably doing anyway
