A thread composer is a textarea that splits on a delimiter and counts characters. The scheduling is a cron. A bot has both of those working before lunch, and since it can log into X in a browser it doesn't even need API access - which matters, because X's API pricing is the main reason small tools in this space are priced the way they are. The genuine loss is the writing environment: Typefully's editor, preview and analytics loop is pleasant in a way that makes you write more, and a bot's version won't be.
the prompt
Written for a bot that already has a browser, a terminal and your logins · paste it in whole.
You have a computer, a browser and my X and LinkedIn logins. Be my thread scheduler. How I'll write: - A folder in my Dropbox called /threads. One markdown file per thread. Tweets separated by a line containing only ---. - Front matter at the top: publish (ISO datetime), networks (x, linkedin, or both), status. What you do: - Every 10 minutes, look for files due and not yet published. - Validate before posting: no tweet over 280 characters. If one is over, do not publish and do not truncate - message me with the offending line. - Post the thread in order, each tweet replying to the one before. Post the LinkedIn version as a single post with the parts joined by blank lines. - Write status: published and the permalink back into the file's front matter. Rules: - Never post the same file twice. Check status before and after. - Never edit my words. Not for length, not for typos, not to improve them. - Captcha or expired session: stop and tell me. Also build me one small thing: a localhost page that renders a /threads file as it will look on X, so I can check it before it goes. Preview only - no publish button on that page.
the bot will need to sign into: x · linkedin · dropbox
what you lose
- a writing environment nice enough to make you actually write
- thread previews that look exactly like the real thing
- analytics on what performed and why
- the iOS app for drafting in the queue at the airport
