Fathom's free plan is generous enough that building a replacement is mostly an exercise in whether you enjoy building things. The paid tier buys you better summary templates, CRM push and unlimited history. A bot can join calls and summarise them well - the models are good at this now - but 'summaries as good as Fathom's' is a real bar, because theirs are tuned against an enormous number of sales calls and yours are tuned against a prompt you wrote once on a Tuesday.

the prompt

Written for a bot that already has a browser, a terminal and your logins · paste it in whole.

You have a computer, a browser, my calendar and my meeting logins. Take notes on my calls.

Per meeting tagged [rec] in my calendar:
- Join in your browser as 'Notetaker (for <my name>)'. Announce yourself in chat. Leave the moment anyone objects.
- Record, transcribe locally with whisper.cpp, then summarise.

The summary matters more than the plumbing, so:
- Use a different template per meeting type, chosen from a keyword in the calendar title: [sales], [1on1], [standup], default.
- Every summary ends with action items in the form 'owner - thing - by when'. If an owner or a date wasn't said out loud, write 'unassigned' rather than guessing.
- Never invent a decision. If the meeting didn't conclude anything, write 'no decisions reached' - that is useful information.

Delivery: Slack DM me the summary within five minutes of the call ending, and file the transcript in Dropbox.

Rules: only tagged calls, never a concealed name, delete on request. Run one test call with just me and show me the output before this goes near a customer.

the bot will need to sign into: google-calendar · google-meet · slack · dropbox
